STATE OF EMERGENCY IS EXTENDED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 7, 2025, DUE TO IMPENDING MASS MIGRATION THREAT
On March 5, 2025, Government Decree No. 30/2025 (III. 5.) amending Government Decree No. 41/2016 (III. 9.) on the declaration of a state of emergency due to mass immigration throughout the territory of Hungary and on the rules related to the declaration, existence, and termination of the state of emergency. (hereinafter: “Decree”), was published in the Hungarian Gazette, announcing the extension of the state of emergency due to impending mass migration threat. The Decree, signed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, took effect on March 6, 2025. This extension prolongs the state of emergency until September 7, 2025.
The Hungarian Government first declared a state of emergency due to migration-related security concerns in the spring of 2016. Since then, the Government has repeatedly extended the measure, citing the persistent challenges posed by irregular migration and the need to ensure national security and border protection.
The state of emergency covers the entire territory of Hungary and includes a range of special laws and measures designed to strengthen border protection and address mass migration-related challenges.
