REVOCATION OF THE GUEST WORKER ACT – NEW REGULATIONS COMING

The Ministry of Economic Development announced on October 5, 2023, that the Government has revoked the application and implementation of Act L of 2023 concerning the employment of guest workers in Hungary. Initially, the implementation was scheduled to commence on November 1, 2023.

The revocation, according to the government, was essential for safeguarding the Hungarian workforce and populace, as well as for establishing fresh frameworks and stricter regulations regarding the immigration and employment of nationals of third countries.

The announcement underscores the Government's intention to conduct a comprehensive review of the current regulations pertaining to foreign nationals and formulate a new legislative proposal that will unequivocally state that temporary immigration and employment in Hungary are restricted to specific purposes, legal standing, and the joint fulfillment of additional legal obligations.
