REIMBURSEMENT DOUBLED FOR WORK TRAVEL EXPENSES
On January 28, 2023, Government Decree No. 16/2023 (I. 27.) on the application of certain rules on the reimbursement of expenses for commuting to work during state of emergency entered into force (hereinafter: “Government Decree”), under which employees will receive reimbursement of the cost of traveling to work by car (i) for days spent at work between the place of work and the place of residence or domicile and (ii) for travel home between the place of work and the place of residence, at a rate of HUF 30/km instead of the previous HUF 15/km.
Employees will receive the doubled reimbursement amount for work related travel expenses beginning in January 2023, according to a Government Decree.
Employees who are entitled to 60% of the HUF 30/km reimbursement (HUF 18/km) for work related travel expenses due to certain statutory conditions, such as the lack of public transportation between their place of residence or domicile and their workplace, or because they have a child in daycare or attending school under the age of 10, will be eligible for the increased amount reimbursement for the first time beginning in February 2023.
