NEW PEOPLE AT THE HELM OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT AND THE PROSECUTOR GENERAL'S OFFICE IN HUNGARY
On June 11, 2025, three significant Parliament resolutions were published in Issue No. 69 of the Hungarian Gazette which resulted in changes at the top level of two branches of power.
Péter Polt, after serving as Hungary's Prosecutor General between 2000 and 2006 and from 2010 until his resignation on May 14, 2025, was elected as President of the Constitutional Court by the Hungarian Parliament in its Decision No. 32/2025. (VI. 11.). The term of the President of the Constitutional Court is twelve (12) years.
Balint Gabor Nagy was elected to fill the position of Prosecutor General. The term of the Prosecutor General is nine (9) years. Previously he worked as the Chief of Cabinet of the Prosecutor General.
Simultaneously, Akos Kozma was elected as a new member of the Constitutional Court. Prior to this position, Kozma served as Commissioner for Fundamental Rights in Hungary.
